Tail servo
From RC Helicopter Wiki
The tail servo is the servo that controls the pitch of the tail rotor blades. It is controlled from the receiver via the gyro.
In order to allow the gyro to maintain good control over the helicopter's heading (particularly during demanding 3D flying, but also in situations as simple as a variable sidewind), the tail servo is often a special high-speed digital servo.
Good tail servos are:
- 450-sized and below:
- Futaba S3153
- Futaba S3154 : Faster than the S3253 but reports of them burning out quickly.
- Robbe FS61BB.
- Futaba S9650 : Larger servo, now mostly superceded for tail use by:
- Futaba S9257 : Fast powerful servo for 450-sized models.
- Larger helicopters
- Futaba S9254 : Standard full-size digital tail servo.
